This collection of sound recordings was re-recorded in 1965 from a collection at the Mendocino County Schools, Calif. It consists of two reels which have been reformatted to cassettes. Cassette no. 1 contains Indian songs sung by Leland Fullwider, Chief Mitoma of the Little Lake Pomo tribe, and other items such as a discussion of acorn soup and pinole foodstuff; cassette no. 2 narrated by Ms. Murphy, describes the tribal usage of plants, colors and designs in basket making. Cassette no. 2 also includes a recollection of the white settlement in California and how it ultimately led to the destruction of the Pomo Indian civilization. It contains a reading of the transcription of a 1939 interview of Ms. Lucy Young, a member of the Yuki tribe.
